New to ITC Classics luxury hotel portfolio is the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah – a beach-front destination close to Dubai with all the impressive facilities you’d expect from the Waldorf Astoria name.

In The Sunday Times last week Susan d’Arcy – who traveled with ITC Classics to the new hot spot – describes how Ras al Khaimah is a ‘star on the rise’. She says:

“…the thermometer is stuck in the mid-20s from October to March. It has 40 miles of coastline edged with white-coral sand, a sparkling blue sea, red desert, a handful of hotels and hardly anything else.”

As the Waldorf Astoria has only recently opened we’ve only just started taking bookings for the destination, which has facilities including 10 dining and entertainment venues, spa, an 18-hole championship golf course and a 350 metre private beach.

We were delighted to hear that Susan had enjoyed her trip with us, with her personal highlight being the local camel races!

“No admission charges or souvenirs,” she writes. “Just the thrill of an authentic experience.

“I was one of only seven foreigners. The locals didn’t speak English, but they smiled hellos. The camels, draped in colourful blankets, looked romantic. Then they started to run, and they looked comical.”

Guest rooms and suites at the hotel include a private butler service, mini bar, HD plasma TV with global satellite channels and WiFi. The hotel is also just a short distance from Dubai International Airport (50 minutes).

For a relaxing winter break Dubai and the surrounding area is a mere seven-hour flight away, with fantastic beaches, shopping and golf. It’s also a great spot for a family break with everything from an indoor ski slope to dune safaris to keep little ones busy. Now is also a great time to head east, with temperatures from mid-October to mid-April slightly cooler for those with kids in tow.
