Verdura Resort was my dream destination

For one of the fun things ITC Luxury Travel arranged for its staff this year, we had to have our photograph taken with a destination we would like to travel to. 

Unbeknown to us, this photograph was then put onto a money box for us to save for our “Dream Holiday Fund”. My destination of choice was Sicily.

Two months and about £10 later I was asked by Rocco Forte Hotels if I would like to attend a trip to the Verdura Resort; without any need for time to make a decision my answer was of course yes!

Direct flights to Sicily operate during the summer months from London Gatwick, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham and in just 3 hours you arrive into Sicily. 

A scenic drive then takes you to Verdura; a stunningly green resort, most of the property is taken up by the olive groves, golf course and long stretches of grass before you come to the contemporary style buildings of the main resort. I stayed in a Deluxe Room which was very spacious, especially for the lead-in room category, with a terrace leading out to a large stretch of grass and looking out to the Mediterranean Sea. 

The resort also boasts Superior Deluxe Rooms which are on the first floor (the top floor) with balconies and amazing sea views, Superior Deluxe Sea Front Rooms which are all on the ground floor near to the beach and with huge suites. Perfect for groups or families there are numerous interconnecting rooms and suites, and even the option to have a “block” of either three or four to yourself to create large villa-like accommodation with views of the beach and golf course. 

Verdura also has a fantastic spa with classes, a large gym and outdoor Thalasso therapy circuit (the perfect spot for quiet sunbathing overlooking the golf course with a choice of pools at different temperatures to cool you down). 

Italy is a destination famed for its food and wine and Verdura has activities for guests to sample the best of this; from cookery lessons with the chef using local and fresh ingredients (and unusually for some cookery schools you are taught meals that you can, and will cook at home afterwards like a simple but delicious tomato pasta sauce), meeting the local orange grower and sampling the marmalade he makes, sampling the olive oil made from olives grown at the resort, and taking a day trip to a local vineyard to hear about the process of wine making and enjoy a tasting.

Verdura is perfectly positioned for this along with visiting the harbour town of Sciacca which is 15 minutes drive away, or venturing further afield for the Valley of the Temples, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

Sicily really was my dream destination.
