Last minute holiday to Mallorca

Whilst the world was celebrating the safe arrival of our new Princess Charlotte, I was being treated like royalty myself on a magical short break to the beautiful island of Mallorca.

Sheltered by green mountains on the peaceful north-west coast, Belmond La Residencia was our first stop. This stunning property is one of Spain's finest luxury boutique hotels. I last visited here when it was owned by Sir Richard Branson some 16 years ago; it was back then I promised myself one day I simply had to return!

We had the pleasure of staying at this first class hotel for two nights and it exceeded every single expectation we had. We arrived in the very early hours of the morning and received such a warm greeting. After being led to our suite, we were treated to a delicious glass of crisp chilled white wine and olives, whilst sitting on our terrace overlooking the night lights of Deia.

This beautiful hotel really was luxurious, with breakfast eaten while sitting on the stunning terrace… a wonderful experience. La Residencia is a very peaceful, romantic, enchanting hotel, with breathtaking views and the most fantastic service.

Belmond La Residencia sits in lush gardens among olive and citrus groves and is within easy walking distance to Deia. During our stay we visited one of the village's many coffee shops just to simply watch the world go by. It has a small selection of restaurants, shops and bars and there is so much to do in this area. Take an art class, explore the region’s cultural treasures by Vespa, hike in the hills...or simply let the hotel pack a picnic on one of its resident donkeys, amble up into the ancient terraces and enjoy a Mallorcan feast with a view!

Alternatively you can just spend your day sitting by one of the two outdoor pools which have stunning views and large sunbathing decks, plus there’s an indoor pool ideal for the colder months, as well as a spa and an outdoor Jacuzzi with sun lounging area.

Next stop was Jumeriah Port Soller Hotel & Spa. Wow! What an architectural masterpiece this hotel was. Built on a cliff overlooking the fishing village of Port Soller and surrounded by the Tramuntana mountain range, this is a true escape that appears to ‘float’ between the sky and the sea. It had an intimate, luxury feel and was spread across 11 buildings, connected by wonderful scented gardens.

This hotel has everything you need; from picture postcard views from your own private balcony, three bars, two restaurants and a luxurious spa. Our room was large with a private balcony which allowed us breathtaking views of the UNESCO World Heritage Tramuntana mountain range. The hotel also has vantage points which provide more uninterrupted views. There are world-class facilities - typical of a resort of this calibre. This includes two swimming pools and the Talise Spa. The spa at this hotel has to be the best I have ever visited and it comes complete with Arabic Hammam.

The port of Soller is a short drive away and the hotel provides shuttle transfers so dinner in one of the quaint restaurants on the marina is a must.

On our way back to the airport we had the pleasure of visiting the St Regis Mardavall Resort. This elegant and luxurious property, enjoying a dramatic cliff-top setting, is just a short distance from the glamorous yacht marina of Puerto Portals with its exclusive boutiques, restaurants and stunning beaches. The hotel is dedicated to offering its guests complete revitalisation of both the body and mind with an impeccable level of service and a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. All rooms and suites are tastefully decorated with bespoke furniture, spacious marble bathrooms and a contemporary sound and entertainment system, enabling you to relax from the moment you arrive.

Further extravagance can be enjoyed at The Arabella Spa offering a wide range of natural medicines and holistic therapies drawing upon a rich variety of traditions. Alternatively, a leisurely afternoon by one of the outdoor pools may suffice and the kids’ club is first class.

Mallorca ticked so many boxes for us: the weather was fantastic for early May and being a short flight away it’s perfect for a relaxing, last minute long weekend!
