Reviewed: One&Only Reethi Rah
My favourite holiday destination is the Maldives and last month I was lucky enough to stay at one of the many resorts there that has been top of my wish list since it opened 10 years ago – One&Only Reethi Rah.
The luxurious bounds of this world-class resort play host to some of the world’s most famous faces, and despite its idyllically remote location, there’s an abundance of facilities and amenities to satisfy even the most restless of guests.
The minute I hopped on board the resort’s luxury yacht at Malé International airport harbour, for the 45 minute transfer, I was certain I was going to experience a very special holiday indeed.
Among the many highlights of my trip was certainly the exquisite dining. Tapasake, for example, is a first-class restaurant serving world-class Japanese food, but with a modern twist. Dining here was sublime. Then there was the über-stylish Epicure, which is a private dining room concealed behind 3,000 wine bottles. If you love your food paired with a top tipple like me, there’s nowhere better.
But what really amazed me about One&Only Reethi Rah was how much there was to do. You can practice your golf swing (into the ocean with naturally biodegradable golf balls filled with fish food!) or even go rock climbing on the resort’s very own 26 foot climbing wall (the only one in the Maldives!). Or if you’re feeling super-adventurous, you can even try your hand at fly-boarding, which involves a water jet pack being attached to your feet. But I have to admit, I didn’t try any of these! My husband did try the golf – and let’s just say the fish were well fed!
Regardless of how much or little you want to do while staying on the island, I would highly recommend a sandbank experience. On ours we were taken by speedboat to a private sandbank where we were served a perfect gin and tonic and then waded into the clear waters that lap the sand for a gentle swim and snorkel.
For truly relaxing indulgence head to the One&Only Spa with its vitality and crystal rooms, indoor/outdoor heat experiences, ice fountains, saunas and more. After a tranquil afternoon of pampering in the spa there was nothing better than the complimentary afternoon tea at the Rah Bar.
Our accommodation in a Beach Villa with Pool was extremely spacious and the décor was chic. The villa ensured utmost privacy, which I believe in today’s world or constant, busy technology is far more important than high-tech gizmos and fancy lighting; it was a true retreat from modern life.
Whilst we were at the resort I couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a look around Reethi Rah’s fantastic kids’ club, which boasts its own swimming pool and mini sun loungers. It’s a great place for kids to play and make friends, plus if they’re keen footballers they can join the daily match on the Astroturf football pitch (said to be where David Beckham and his sons have played on there many stays here!).
Overall I’d say that what One&Only has managed to achieve is a resort that caters beautifully for both couples and families, with neither compromising on luxury and indulgence.
One&Only Reethi Rah exceeded my expectations in every possible way.
