A taste of luxury in Sardinia and Puglia

Italy has always been on my luxury holiday destination wish-list and recently I finally had the chance to visit, spending three wonderful days in Sardinia followed by a short stop in the beautiful southern resort of Puglia. As a Travel Specialist at ITC Luxury Travel, I can't wait to share my new found knowledge and love of this place with our clients!

Our first stop was the beautiful Costa Smeralda region of northern Sardinia, where you'll find a range of hotels, each with its own unique take on Italian style. Porto Cervo is a fantastic seaside resort town, with an exclusive atmosphere. Take a walk along the harbour for a glimpse of the luxury yachts and possibly even the celebrities onboard, or wander through the designer boutiques for a very special treat!

There is an abundance of local delicious dining options here, from the more relaxed bars to à la carte restaurants, there is definitely something for everyone. For a real local flavour dine at Gastronomia Belvedere, where the owner will translate the menu for you and describe his dishes of the day; a true taste of Sardinian life!

Cervo Hotel Costa Smerelda Resort, with its prime location, simple but elegant style and beautiful sea views, was one of my favourites among the many luxury accommodation options. Hotel Cala Di Volpe is another gem, and it's the place to be seen, with quirky but chic design and stunning beachside location, not forgetting the fabulous summer concerts starring the likes of Robbie Williams and Natalie Imbruglia, which are complimentary for Cala Di Volpe guests! Either of these hotels would make a great base for a luxury Sardinia holiday.

A transfer to southern Sardinia takes 3 ½ to 4 hours, but if you fancy some extra luxury or it’s a special occasion, you can travel in the ultimate style via a helicopter! Our first stop in the south was Forte Village, which has some impressive plaudits to its name, having been a member of Leading Hotels of the World since 1998. It is a vast resort, with accommodation options to suit any group size.

Set in extensive grounds over 25 hectares, with several hotels, a stunning white sandy beach and 21 restaurants, this place is perfect for a luxury family holiday. What stands out is the level of facilities here for families. From academies for golf, tennis, basketball and football, to name a few, to the Barbie activity centre and Mario’s Village, go carting and bowling, there is something to keep all ages entertained.

There are quieter, romantic options here too. The luxurious Castello has got to be my favourite hotel within the resort. I recommend the Prestige Plus rooms for their glamorous style and huge sea view balconies.

Before heading back to the airport we had a tour of Chia Laguna Resort. Overlooking a stunning white sandy beach, this is a very elegant property with an amazing spa. Rooms are appointed with contemporary and uncomplicated style and the new swimming pool is a haven of relaxation; the perfect place to sit and enjoy a cocktail and take in the views of the ocean.

A short flight from Cagliari to Bari Airport and we arrived at our next stop; Borgo Egnazia. Situated in the Puglia region of southern Italy, this luxury resort is designed to resemble a typical Apulian village and is overflowing with elegance and charm. Accommodation at the property is divided into three sections, La Corte luxury hotel rooms; La Borgo apartment style family rooms; and Le Ville villas with private pools.

We ate at Due Camini, the resort's signature gourmet restaurant, and our meal certainly didn’t disappoint. Our sommelier carefully selected the best wine for each course and we struggled to decide between all of the mouth-watering options on the impressive menu.

Families are catered to brilliantly with their own kids' and teens' club, as well as children’s only restaurant. The resort offers a complimentary shuttle bus to their two beach clubs and bicycles are readily available to hire for the more adventurous explorers. Whether you want to chill out or get active, the options are endless; cooking classes; a poolside sundowner; a round of golf at the championship course; a treatment in their award-winning spa; this hotel is the perfect sanctuary to escape everyday worries and simply relax.

I thoroughly enjoy my first taste of Italian life and am sure I'll be back before long! To book an Italy luxury holiday of your own you can call 01244 355 600 or start a webchat now.
