ITC insider on a luxury Croatian holiday review
ITC Luxury Travel Specialist Sharon Williams recently went to Croatia with her colleague Hayley Fernyhough for three nights exploring the delights of this country. Here’s what she had to say…
On our trip we stayed in three separate areas on three separate nights; the first of which was Hvar. We arrived at the Adriana Hvar Spa Hotel in the pouring rain so unfortunately we didn’t see the area in its best light, but being able to get off the plane after 2 hours 20 minutes and be at my destination was just magic. Getting to Hvar was a bit of an additional ‘trek’ and we took a ½ hour drive from Split airport to Split harbour. We then boarded a commuter ferry to Hvar – which took precisely an hour.
When the rain had cleared we discovered that the area was very pretty and built up around the harbour while the hotel was a good base for anyone wanting to go off and explore. The spa was lovely and the rooftop bar and terrace was very special.
Our second day was in Rovinj, staying at the Hotel Monte Mulini; without doubt my personal favourite area and hotel in Croatia and just a 40 minute road transfer from Pula Airport.
I knew we were going somewhere special when we were sitting in the car on the approach to this hotel. We were surrounded by pine trees and forestry and I could smell the clean, fresh air – it was gorgeous.
The hotel is surrounded by a nature park which is a protected area and there are hiking trails and cycle paths all through the forest. Hotel Monte Mulini is built on a peninsular so when looking out to the sea, it is like looking over a lake. Within walking distance there was a harbour, shops, bars and restaurants, creating an area with something for everyone. In the locality there is also a city where you can find Roman remains and a lot of history; perfect for exploring Croatia’s past if you have the time. To conclude, I found this hotel and area simply breathtaking and I would highly recommend it. I hope to return on a personal holiday very soon!
Our final stop was in Dubrovnik staying at two unique properties, the Villa Orsula and Hotel Bellvue. Villa Orsula was originally built as a family home, then bought and renovated by Adriatic Luxury Hotels in 2012. It was simple yet luxurious with a great restaurant and stunning views. The Hotel Bellevue is conveniently located 20 minute walk from the centre of The Old Town of Dubrovnik and is built into a cliffside with fabulous views. It was a comfortable hotel with a great location, a good spa, excellent restaurant and very good beach facilities.
All in all we had a fantastic time in Croatia and hope to return for a longer trip next time.
