Holidays inspired by the 2014 Oscars nominees
The movie world is gearing up for one of the most exciting nights of the year on Sunday– the Academy Awards!
Oscar-nominated actors and actresses for the 86th annual awards come from a variety of different genres, and it’s great to see so many British names on the list; from Welshman Christian Bale to Queen of the Screen Judi Dench.
Here at ITC Luxury Travel our money is on the incredibly moving true story of 12 Years a Slave for the Best Motion Picture gong, with lead actor Chiwetel Ejiofor certainly in the running for Best Actor.
So where do the stellar actors of the twenty-first century head for their luxury holidays? We did a little investigating:
The Wolf of Mykonos
Leonardo DiCaprio is renowned for his fantastic acting, yet he’s yet to receive an Oscar for his performances. But this year could be his lucky one with The Wolf of Wall Street a hotly-tipped favourite among the critics.
If you’re looking to holiday like a star try the Grace Mykonos above the sandy beach of Agios Stefanos and with exquisite views.
Brazil Buyers Club
He’s better known for his romcom performances but Matthew McConaughey has added some more serious roles to his CV in the last year.
When on his holidays, Matthew likes to head to his wife’s homeland; Brazil, and was recently spotted there after the promotional tour of his Oscar nominated movie Dallas Buyers Club. For a holiday like the famous actor head to the Copacabana Palace Hotel - one of the most luxurious hotels in Rio de Janeiro.
Philomena in Surrey
Dame Judy Dench – who is up for an Oscar for Philomena – has long championed the delights of holidaying in her home country, even being asked to be an ambassador for Visit Britain.
Dame Judy cites her favourite UK spots as stately homes, saying “it is our different architecture that I think attracts people, and we’re incredibly lucky - we retain our history.”
If you want to combine her love of period properties with a place to relax close to home try Grayshott Spa in Surrey; once the country home of Lord Tennyson, this quiet haven is just an hour's drive from London but a world away from the hustle and bustle.
Cate Blanchett has already picked up a number of awards for her stellar performance in Blue Jasmine and it’s expected that the film will be among the winners at Sunday night’s Oscars awards.
On a recent holiday with her husband and three boys Cate was spotted enjoying the sights and sounds of Paris, with a trip to the Louvre thrown in for some added culture.
A stay at the Mandarin Oriental Paris is sure to enhance your stay in the city of love. This luxury hotel is ideally situated on the Rue Saint-Honoré, a favourite with the A-list
