Island In The Sun - Sardinia
We departed from London City Airport on a cold wet Thursday morning on a British Airways flight. What a fabulous airport, small but perfect and excellent staff in all departments.
We landed in a sunny and very warm Cagliari after a 2 hour flight and were then whisked away by luxury vehicle to the Forte Village resort. What struck me were the spectacular coastline, valleys of golden wheat and the rugged mountains; Sardinia is somewhere rather special.
As is Forte Village in fact, a large but incredibly friendly and well thought out resort that enjoys various standards of accommodation from rooms to villas. It consists of three elegant hotels each perfect for a very different holiday experience, from tranquil romantic escapes to family fun.
Hotel Castello is more traditional in style with elegantly furnished rooms - I was lucky enough to say here in an Executive Deluxe Mare Room. Large, airy, light and bright but all rooms have a Mediterranean feel to them.
The resort also has Villa Del Parco, an intimate hideaway, with just 25 rooms and 22 bungalows, and Le Dune , where you stay in bungalows or suites near to the beach, each with its own private garden and patio. Le Dune was another of my favourites - close to the beach with interconnecting rooms ideal for families. Even though this is a large resort it certainly doesn't feel like it. Lots of flora and fauna in the grounds make it feel very quiet and peaceful.
The entertainment was fantastic, live music, disco, go-carting to name of few things to keep you and the family entertained - couples would not feel out of place here either. You can do as much or as little as you please.
