One of the hottest topics of travel conversation at the moment is the Aurora Borealis, otherwise known as the Northern Lights, and this weekend in particular it seemed that every travel supplement was running an article about it. But who could blame them, as all this excitement comes in the light of American Space Agency NASA's announcement that this winter is set to offer the best display of Northern Lights in 50 years!

Now here comes the science bit - the Aurora Borealis is caused by particles on the solar wind interacting with the Earth's atmosphere; the magnetic North Pole amplifies this effect and this winter solar activity is expected to be especially high - so the lights should be particularly spectacular.

One of the best places to view this phenomenon is in Alaska and a we have a once in a lifetime itinerary available, that can takes you into the heart of this peaceful state providing you with an opportunity not only to view the cosmic wonder of the Aurora Borealis but also dog sledding, bear watching and touring the sensational glaciers of Prince William Sound by cruise.

So this winter, why not light up your travel life?
