Star Struck in Cannes!
This week the attractive sea facing French town of Cannes is alive with the sounds and sights of the annual Film Festival, which runs from the 11th to 22nd May and this year offers visitors the chance to be star struck once more as the like of Johnny Deep, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman and the many other leading luminaries who will be flocking to its shores.
I was fortunate enough to visit a couple of years ago and stayed at Hotel Martinez, renowned for its stylish living and for its eminent position on the famous Boulevard de La Croisette in Cannes. Which has to be seen to be believed and is one the most iconic locations to 'see and be seen' on the Riviera.
During the celebrated film festival it's a real lure for the stars and retains vestiges of that glamour throughout the year. Its signature restaurant is a constant reminder of its enviable position; the famous 'La Palme d'Or', named after the highest prize given at the Film Festival, is a two Michelin star gastronomic delight, decorated in the style of contemporary Art Deco with original portraits of the stars.
Upon our arrival a little glimpse into the hotels clientèle was evident at the door and it took my other half several minutes to regain his composure as he drooled over the various super cars that were parked there. Luckily for me, with this distraction he failed to notice the stunning actress Penelope Cruz as we walked through the lobby.
With this in mind my only concern whilst staying here was whether I was 'bikini fit' enough to be relaxing by the hotel pool, which itself is small but perfectly formed. The property is all about its location and its beach, which is actually a vast pontoon with private sun-loungers, is one of the most iconic locations on the Riviera.
I can't wait to see who this year's winners at the Cannes Film Festival will be, so much so that I'm heading there this weekend, but as far as I'm concerned there is one clear winner in the hotel category and that's the iconic Hotel Martinez .
