Barbados at Christmas
I was fortunate enough that business led me to visit the beautiful Caribbean island of Barbados just before Christmas, from where I travelled back to the UK on Christmas day, on a flight that was surprisingly full!
I've never travelled on this day before and was relieved to make it home without any problems in time for my Christmas lunch; which lovely as it was and beautiful as enjoying a true white Christmas could be, a part of me was left pining for the sunny shores of Barbados.
It's one of my favourite destinations and an island that over my years my career with ITC has enabled me to spend plenty of time on. So much so that it now feels like something of a home from home, albeit a very warm and stunningly beautiful one.
It was great to visit this time and spend some quality time at the ITC Holetown office with Kerin and Jenny, I must say they do a fantastic job and if you're planning to visit the island they are always pleased to take some time out to see ITC clients.
The new look Tamarind formerly Tamarind Cove is fabulous, I met with their new General Manager Andy Howard previously of Grace Bay Club, in Providenciales on Turks & Caicos, when I visited. He and his team have made some fantastic changes to this lovely hotel. All of the soft furnishings in every room have changes and the new intimate spa is fantastic. There is also a superb "Flying Fish Kids Club" for the little ones and "Club Tamarind" for teenagers but my favourite addition has to be Rilaks Deck, which serves trendy small tapas style dishes along with some fabulous cocktails, it reminded me of the time I stayed at the Setai Hotel South Beach Miami.
There is a great offer available for Tamarind available at the moment. 7 nights from £1,179 which is a saving of £275 per person, to take advantage make sure you book before 28th February 2011.
I also had dinner with the new General Manager of The Fairmont Royal Pavilion Wayne Kafcsak (previously of Raffles, Canouan and Peter Island). Their 24 new Beachfront Junior Suites look amazing, benefiting from a fantastic decked area, direct access to the beach and a fabulous team of butlers on hand to serve your every wish. They have also refurbished all 48 Oceanfront Deluxe Rooms which look superb. The rooms here are so close to the ocean that you really do feel like you are on a luxury yacht.
Another stop on my island trail was to see Robert Logan and his team at Sandy Lane; the new Rolls Royce Phantoms have arrived and look great, although he wouldn't allow me to take one for a spin. The staff were ready for Christmas but were keeping some of their Christmas treats very close to their chest - although I'm guessing that it was a very "Pink Christmas" for everyone.
Anyone interested in visiting Sandy Lane might like to know there is a stay 7 nights but only pay for 6 offer available if you book before the 25th January. 7 nights from £2,595 per person, saving £640 per person. Which is a great saving on an amazing property!
For me I hope Jennifer Atkinson (our CEO ) is reading this and sends me back to Barbados sometime very soon….
