The beautiful and exclusive island of Mustique is somewhere I loved when I first visited two years ago, so to get the opportunity to go back was too good to miss, especially as it meant staying in one of my favourite hotels, actually it's the islands only full service hotel and its' called Cotton House .

Originally an 18th century sugar mill, this place oozes old world charm and the island itself; well it is somewhere very special indeed. Just a short hop from Barbados, the transfer is made smoother by the Cotton House representative who meets you when you land in Barbados and whisk you off to departures. We used the shared charter flight but for the ultimate in efficiency and style choose one of the private charters that are available, they are well worth the supplement.

Mustique is 18 miles south of St. Vincent and 110 miles west of Barbados but its a million miles away when it comes to the experience it offers. On this island you won't find cruise ships in the harbor, only occasional yachtsmen sailing through and you won't find shops galore either, just a couple of small boutiques.
And when it comes to dining then the famous Basils Bar is your option. Open for lunch and dinner and hosts their very own Jump-Up on a Wednesday night, but who knows who you might spot there!!

As soon as you arrive onto Mustique you know you have arrived somewhere very extraordinary and if you are a fan of rustic charm you will find it here in spades. The airport has bamboo walls and a thatched roof - very Caribbean!

The boutique property of Cotton House with its 18 rooms set in lush tropical gardens is only a few minutes drive away. There is a beautiful beach at the hotel but with nine beaches to choose from on the island it is definitely worth hiring a 'mule', not the animal kind but a motorised mule, a bit like a golf cart they can allow you to explore all of the island. But if that sounds too adventurous the hotel will always set up a picnic right on the beach for you.

If you want even more privacy then there are also a variety of stunning villas dotted around the island. The villas come in all styles and sizes and are very individual so there is one for everyone's tastes. Amazing views come as standard and they are the perfect place to celebrate that special occasion with family and friends.

For a Caribbean escape with a capital C, where charm and culture is found at every turn, then the small, secluded and perfectly formed island of Mustique, with its privacy, exclusivity and luxury is a real must!
