Classic Comment - Antigua
Maggie O'Sullivan wrote a brilliant article on Antigua `The Perfect Port Of Call' in this weekend's Sunday Telegraph and, as it's a destination I've been fortunate enough to have visited several times, I was interested to hear her thoughts.
Personally I have to agree it's a fantastic island and I've always felt very comfortable, relaxed and at home there. I was actually on island only last year and have to add that despite a global recession Antigua remains as upbeat as the reggae music played at Shirley Heights, a local beauty spot with panoramic views.
I'd like to add Shirley Heights to Maggie's suggestions and I'd highly recommend a visit, especially on Sundays when the Lookout restaurant holds its legendary barbecue party. When I visited I was delighted to see that this is one traditional Antiguan experience that has stood the test of time and, like other key aspects of life on island, remains sacred!
