It was announced last week that Sir Richard Branson is not just content with heading into space, he will now be conquering the world's oceanic depths in a revolutionary carbon fibre and titanium "flying" submarine.

The Virgin Oceanic project will encompass five dives over the next two years in an attempt to charter the deepest part of each of Earth's five oceans. The first trip will be to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, 11,033 metres (36,201ft) beneath the surface of the Pacific. At the controls will be pilot Chris Welsh. Richard Branson himself will take the helm for the second dive into the Puerto Rico Trench, 8,605 metres (28,232ft) down, close to his home on Necker Island in the Britsh Virgin Islands. The three further excursions will take in the sights in the Molloy Deep in the Arctic Ocean, South Sandwich Trench in the Southern Ocean (Antarctic) and Diamantina in the Indian Ocean.

If you too would like to explore the marine life in a unique way you can always try plumbing the depths of the ocean in another Virgin submarine whilst staying at Sir Richard Branson's Caribbean home, Necker Island. The 3-person aero submarine, called the Necker Nymph, is an underwater 'aircraft' designed especially for Virgin Limited Edition, which takes exploration under the sea completely new depths!

For a stay at Necker Island, if you don't want the whole island to yourself there are weeks available throughout the year when you can share this slice of paradise with other guests.
