Dubai in style
Being based in the north has its disadvantages as a frequent traveller, namely London connections. Nothing is worse than 3 hours at Gatwick with jetlag, which is one of the reasons why I am so excited about the new A380 Emirates to Dubai, a quality product AND direct. Emirates have long supported the regions with daily direct flights from Newcastle, Scotland and twice daily from Manchester. But the A380 is in a new league.
The business seats are fantastic, the window seat is on its own (no more crawling over the person next to you when they're asleep!!)there is a wide screen 'ICE' technology system and hundreds of movie choices. That is if you leave the bar and sit down!! Even as we hit turbulence, we buckled in by the bar and continued having fun, have they thought of everything? In short yes, first class even has an on board shower!
There are some great 'launch offers' you can get first for the price of business, surely worth a weekend hop to the sun in a bit of style?!
Once in Dubai, I stayed at the Atlantis, a city in itself with over 1000 rooms. The Lost Chamber Suite is a one off, lie in bed and watch the fish....very serene. A word that you probably wouldn't ordinarily use for the Atlantis, it has everything and at scale, you can (and I did) go from swimming with dolphins, to shopping, to beach in 3 easy (albeit long) steps!! The other serene moment was the spa, again vast but fabulous, some of the best treatments I've had.
Whilst I was in Dubai I took the opportunity to see progress on the exciting One&Only The Palm, I even saw the mock up room. They say they are on track for opening in November and there are some cracking offers out.
Its a very private resort and the villas look really fab with the signature One&Only styling. So with A380 flights, guaranteed weather (well as 'guaranteed' as it gets), just as autumn is setting in, and some great offers, there has never been a better time to hop to Dubai for a short autumn break.
