Spain is the number one holiday destination amongst Brits, and it’s not hard to see why we flock to its shores every year. However, there’s a lot more to a luxury Spain holiday than just sun, sea and sand. The Spanish people know how to live, and there’s plenty to enjoy here!

Steeped in history and tradition, Spain has over 1,500 museums, ranging from art galleries featuring great masterpieces to modern science and technology museums. It boasts the third highest number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world, including the legendary old towns of Salamanca and Santiago de Compostela. It's a land where vibrant passion has left its unique and indelible mark on the music, art, architecture and cuisine of the country’s colourful culture.

With its great cultural cities such as Barcelona and Madrid, the Moorish magnificence of Andalucia, and the beautiful Balearic Islands of Ibiza and Mallorca, Spain is equally ideal for a city break or a relaxing beach holiday. Its people are proud, the beaches long, and the food and drink free-flowing and full of regional flavours.

Many cultures and civilisations have passed through the country over the course of its history and left their mark, meaning that Spain enjoys a varied and rich cuisine that is synonymous with the Mediterranean diet. Each region of Spain has its own typical dishes and recipes. Trying one of the many varieties of paella and visiting a traditional market are vital parts of the Spanish gastronomic experience.

There are some legendary cultural events in Spain, including the famous La Tomatina tomato-throwing festival in Buñol and the San Fermin bull run in Pamplona, which both attract participants from all over the world.

One of the many reasons why Brits descend on Spain’s sun-soaked land every year is its lively nightlife. Bars and clubs stay open well into the early hours – you can watch the sun come up with a cup of ‘churros’ after a long night of partying. Ibiza’s nightlife needs no introduction, while Magaluf in Mallorca is another top destination for young revellers.

With its brilliant climate and efficient transport system, it’s no wonder why Spain is one of the most popular destinations in the world for sports holidays. With over 500 courses, Spain is the top European destination for golf tourism. Whatever your handicap, you can enjoy a wide range of courses from the major cities to the mountains. Tennis is also hugely popular here and Spain is one of the best places to practise on clay – just ask Rafael Nadal!
For those who prefer their sports in the water to on land, Spain offers a choice of the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean or the Cantabrian Sea for activities such as angling, sailing and kayaking.

Of course, Spain is very famous for the traditional sport of bullfighting, too. The highly ritualised and ceremonial bullfighting events run from March to October in most towns and cities. The Plaza de toros de la Maestranza in Seville, built in 1765, is the oldest bullring in the world.
