Straight off the pages of Vogue, luxury Milan holiday provide visitors with an experience of the catwalk city. In the last 30 years, this gritty Northern Italian city has become a world style leader.

Experience a performance at the famous La Scala Opera House, admire Leonardo da Vinci's 'The Last Supper', shop amongst the world's top designer labels, and pay a visit to the San Siro, home to footballing legends Internazionale and AC Milan.

Eating out

The Milanese prefer to eat, not dine. Portions are uncommonly large, and butter is used as frequently as olive oil. At Milan's oldest restaurant, Boeucc, near La Scala, typical Milanese dishes like penne al branzino e zucchini (with sea bass and zucchini sauce) and gelato di castagne con zabaglione caldo (chestnut ice cream) are served. Meanwhile, Milan's most celebrated trattoria, the Bagutta, is still patronised by the city's artists and celebrities.

Gothic beauty

One of the hubs of this vibrant city is the Piazza del Duomo where the beautiful late gothic cathedral is situated. Commissioned in 1386, this marvel of spires, pillars and marble pinnacles is the world's fourth largest church. The cathedral's most interesting relic is a nail, which is said to have been used to pin Jesus to the cross - every September; the Archbishop of Milan presents the nail to the congregation.
