I started my career as a trainee in an independent travel agency in sunny Skegness which sadly is no longer around, and that was the start of this fantastic road that I've travelled along.
In 1991 I took my first role in field sales with TWA Getaway Vacations as Midlands Sales Executive and loved it. Being a country gal from Lincolnshire, and never having driven on a motorway, I headed to Birmingham, via the infamous spaghetti junction, with just my road map - of course there was no sat nav in those days!
I was determined that this is what I wanted to do - as working in travel is my absolute passion; from the destinations to the people to the culture and of course the never ending changes. One of my favourite parts of the job is meeting people and developing relationships, understanding their business and then looking at opportunities to work in partnership.
For me it's all about close working partnerships and developing trust, respect and most of all fabulous friendships with colleagues and agents alike. Having worked in north America, Canada and cruising markets, I've long wanted to work within luxury travel and having relocated to the south of England and become an honorary Essex girl last year, I've been extremely lucky to join Western & Oriental travel in Trade Sales earlier this year.
I've loved getting to know the brands and working with a fantastic team of people with such exceptional knowledge and passion for the destinations. I've also met some wonderful agents with such fascinating backgrounds and stories to tell. Following on from the news that ITC has acquired Western & Oriental this has created a fantastic portfolio of luxury products with a much increased choice for the agent. I'm truly delighted to now be part of a fabulous team with Lee, Jon and Elaine.
I'm excited about the future and can't wait to get out and start talking about all of the wonderful things we have to offer our agency partners.
